This Year, Fort Knox will be Fright-Free

The iconic Halloween event, Fright at the Fort, will not be held this year, as announced by the Friends of Fort Knox. The decision was made due to increased production costs, guest misbehavior, liability insurance risks, and decreased attendance.

Started in 2000 as a fundraiser for Fort Knox, Fright at the Fort grew to be one of the largest Halloween events in northern New England, attracting more than 10,000 people annually. It raised over $100,000 each year for operations and maintenance of the fort. The 2018 Stephen King-themed event was the biggest ever, with more than 15,000 attendees causing traffic backups along the Penobscot Narrows Bridge.

Like many other events, Fright at the Fort faced challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to its cancellation in 2020 and 2021. The Friends of Fort Knox expressed their sincere apologies to fans and thanked the local community for their support over the years.

The decision to cancel Fright at the Fort was not made lightly, as it was a beloved event that brought joy and excitement to many. Despite the disappointment, the Friends of Fort Knox are grateful for the efforts and energy that made past Frights successful.
