A tragic explosion in Beirut and southern Lebanon has been linked to Hezbollah operatives whose pagers exploded in what is believed to be a remote attack. The incident resulted in the deaths of 12 people, including two children, and left 2,800 injured, with 300 in critical condition. Lebanon’s health minister and Hezbollah have accused Israel of being behind the attacks.
Hezbollah, a militant group backed by Iran, has a history of conflict with Israel dating back to the 1980s. The group has used pagers as a means of communication to avoid Israeli interception, as smartphones are easily tracked. Recent speculation suggests that the pagers may have been tampered with during transit or shipping, possibly containing small explosive devices that were remotely triggered by Israel’s spy agency.
Experts believe that the pagers that exploded were a new batch that arrived recently and had superior technology. It is suspected that Israel managed to implant explosive material into the pagers’ electronic circuit, making it difficult to detect during normal inspections. Reports also indicate that Israel’s spy agency placed explosives inside thousands of pagers imported into Lebanon months ago.
The incident has been condemned by Hezbollah, with a politician calling it a “criminal aggression.” Lebanon has reached out to Israeli defense ministry for comment. The use of pagers in communication by Hezbollah and their alleged tampering sheds light on the ongoing tensions in the region and the methods used by both sides to gain an advantage in the conflict.
