Rays dominate struggling Red Sox with 8-3 victory

Tampa Bay Rays defeat Boston Red Sox 8-3 in St. Petersburg, Fla. on Tuesday night, with Shane Baz pitching seven strong innings and Jose Siri driving in four runs. Baz set a team record with his fifth consecutive start of allowing three hits or fewer. Siri hit a three-run double in the eighth inning to seal the win for the Rays. Other players who contributed to the victory were Junior Caminero, Josh Lowe, and Brandon Lowe, who all hit home runs. The Rays now trail the Minnesota Twins by six games for the final AL wild-card spot. Boston’s Triston Casas and Romy Gonzalez hit homers, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Rays. Nick Pivetta struggled for the Red Sox, allowing four runs in 4 2/3 innings. Despite a late pinch-hit homer from Gonzalez, Boston was unable to mount a comeback. Kevin Kelly closed out the game with a scoreless ninth inning to secure the win for the Rays. The victory puts Tampa Bay in a good position as they aim to clinch a playoff spot in the final weeks of the season.
