Vergie (Norwood) Plourde, a beloved lifelong resident of Skowhegan, passed away at the age of 85. Raised by resilient women, she graduated from Skowhegan Area High School and married Richard “Dick” Plourde, with whom she had five children and ran a successful family business. Active in the community, Vergie and Dick were members of the Skowhegan Elks Lodge and Women’s Elks Auxiliary.
Despite facing challenges such as a near-death medical illness and a recent cancer diagnosis, Vergie remained strong and grateful for the extra years she was given. Known for her quick-wit and famous “zingers,” she had a special way of connecting with everyone she met. Vergie is survived by her dedicated husband Dick, their children, grandchildren, and a large extended family.
Services for Vergie will be held at Smart and Edward’s Funeral Home in Skowhegan on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 1 p.m. Donations in her memory can be made to the Somerset Humane Society.
