Country star Zach Bryan recently found himself in hot water after making a drunken dig at Taylor Swift on social media. The 28-year-old singer posted a message on X expressing his preference for Kanye West over Swift, including a slight against Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce. Bryan quickly faced backlash from Swift’s fans and issued an apology, stating that he loves both artists and blaming alcohol for his controversial post. He has since deleted his account.
The tension between West and Swift dates back to 2009 when West famously interrupted Swift’s acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards. The incident led to a years-long feud between the two musicians, with West even incorporating Swift into his song “Famous.” The controversy escalated when West claimed that Swift had given him permission to include derogatory lyrics about her, a claim that was later proven false through a recorded phone call.
Swift’s response to the feud came in the form of her 2017 album, Reputation, which included several references aimed at both West and his wife at the time, Kim Kardashian. Despite the ongoing animosity between the musicians, Bryan’s ill-advised comments have reignited the debate between fans of Swift and West. It remains to be seen if Bryan’s apology will be enough to mend relations with Swift’s dedicated fanbase.
