Award-winning writer Erin Merrill and Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Commissioner Judy Camuso will be engaging in a discussion about the role of hunting in conservation and making the outdoors inclusive for everyone at Greene Block Studios on November 12 at 7 p.m. Merrill, who began hunting with her dad at 20, has since expanded her outdoor adventures to include trapping, fly fishing, and foraging. In 2021, she achieved her “Big Game Grand Slam” by harvesting a bear, turkey, deer, and moose in a single year. Merrill’s experiences as a woman in a male-dominated field have been featured in various podcasts and news stories. She also serves on the board of directors for the New England Outdoor Writers Association and is the vice president of the Outdoor Writers Association of America. Meanwhile, Judy Camuso, the first woman to lead the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, will share her expertise on preserving and enhancing Maine’s wildlife resources. A licensed bird bander and avid birder, Camuso is also a hunter, canoer, hiker, and biker. This event promises to be an enlightening discussion on conservation efforts and ways to create a more welcoming outdoor environment for all.
