Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in the US for a crucial visit to present Kyiv’s plan to end the ongoing war with Russia. Zelenskyy will meet with President Joe Biden, as well as presidential hopefuls Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, to discuss his “victory plan” and attend sessions at the UN General Assembly. This visit follows a summer of intense fighting in eastern Ukraine, with Kyiv urging the west to allow the use of long-range weapons to strike deep inside Russia. Zelenskyy stated that this fall will determine the future of the war and called for shared victory for a just peace.
During his visit, Zelenskyy toured an ammunition factory in Pennsylvania, where he expressed gratitude for the production of critical munitions needed for Ukraine. UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy also indicated ongoing negotiations with the White House to allow Ukraine to use Storm Shadow missiles inside Russia, emphasizing the need for allies to stand with Ukraine with nerve and guts.
Meanwhile, fake news websites registered in the UK have been spreading disinformation about western companies operating in Ukraine, prompting calls for laws to reveal their ownership. In the midst of these developments, Russia launched new strikes in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, hitting high-rise buildings and causing injuries, and a firefighter was killed by a Ukrainian drone in Russia-controlled Luhansk region.
The situation in Ukraine remains tense, with Zelenskyy’s visit to the US seen as a critical moment in the ongoing conflict with Russia.
