Trump briefed on alleged assassination threats from Iran; potential threats receive national attention

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump revealed that he has been warned of ‘real and specific threats from Iran’ to assassinate him, according to his campaign. Trump claimed on his Truth Social platform that he is surrounded by heightened security due to the threats. The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) reportedly issued the warning to Trump.

Iran has denied these allegations of interference in US affairs, and the ODNI declined to comment on specifics of the briefing. Trump has previously accused Iran of hacking his campaign and there have been reported attempts to interfere in the US election campaign.

There have been past incidents where Iran was accused of plotting against Trump, including a shooting at a rally in Pennsylvania and a Pakistani man allegedly tied to Iran being charged in a plot to assassinate Trump in retaliation for the killing of Qassem Soleimani. However, there has been no indication of Iranian involvement in a recent apparent assassination attempt on Trump at his Florida golf course.

Law enforcement officials are working to protect Trump and ensure the November 5 presidential election is free from interference. It is not clear if the threats mentioned are new or had been previously reported. Trump’s campaign emphasized the seriousness of the threats and the need for heightened security measures.
