The Hermon High School girls soccer team secured a 4-1 victory against the John Bapst High School Crusaders on Wednesday afternoon. Captain Brooke Gallop scored two goals and had an assist, while freshman Payton Guerrette registered three assists and goalkeeper Becca Balmas made 10 saves. The Hawks improved to 4-1 with their fourth consecutive win, with juniors Natalie Tardie and Madison Stewart also finding the back of the net.
Both teams attempted 20 shots during the game, with John Bapst’s lone goal coming from a penalty kick by freshman Quinn Bennett. Despite a strong effort, the Crusaders were unable to match the Hawks’ performance.
Coach M.J. Ball praised his team’s overall play, highlighting the defensive effort and Gallop’s impressive performance. Balmas’ crucial saves early in the game helped keep Hermon in control, with Gallop and Guerrette providing key offensive contributions.
Although Gallop sustained a knee injury towards the end of the game, she managed to lead her team to victory. John Bapst coach Greg Bennett acknowledged his team’s shortcomings but expressed optimism for future games against Hermon.
The teams are set to face off again on Oct. 10 in Hermon, with both looking forward to another competitive matchup. In the meantime, John Bapst will take on Caribou, while Hermon will prepare to face Mount Desert Island in their upcoming games.
