Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for not negotiating with Russia to end the war in Ukraine, stating that even the “worst deal” would be better than the current level of death and destruction. Trump claimed that the cities and towns destroyed in the war could never be replaced and it would take hundreds of years to rebuild them. He accused Zelenskyy of making derogatory comments towards him and his running mate JD Vance.
Trump’s comments came after Zelenskyy urged world leaders at the UN General Assembly to support his 2022 “peace formula” that demands the expulsion of all Russian forces from Ukraine to achieve a real and just peace. Trump has repeatedly stated that he would bring an end to the war quickly but has provided few specific details on how he would accomplish this.
During a recent podcast interview, Trump mentioned having a detailed plan to resolve the conflict but did not disclose any specifics. The Republican candidate’s criticism of Zelenskyy’s handling of the war is his most explicit yet, with Trump portraying the Ukrainian leader as unwilling to make necessary compromises to end the conflict. Zelenskyy had previously mentioned that Trump does not know how to stop the war effectively.
As the presidential campaign heats up, Trump’s position on ending the conflict in Ukraine will continue to be a significant focus, with voters keen to understand his plans for bringing peace to the region.
