Netanyahu Announces Israel-Hezbollah Ceasefire Talks to Continue in the Near Future Amidst Middle East Crisis

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israeli teams had meetings to discuss the US ceasefire proposals with Lebanon and will continue discussions in the days ahead. He appreciated the US efforts and reiterated Israel’s commitment to the shared goal of returning people safely to their homes. This comes after Israeli foreign minister Israel Katz rejected a ceasefire in the north, where Israeli jets have been targeting Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Despite calls from the US, France, and other allies for an immediate three-week ceasefire, Netanyahu has declared that Israel will not stop its attacks on Hezbollah until all goals are reached. US and France have endorsed a joint statement calling for a temporary ceasefire, with other countries and international bodies also supporting the diplomatic resolution of the crisis.

Lebanon’s foreign minister highlighted the devastating impact of the conflict on his country, welcoming the ceasefire plan and demanding its implementation. US officials are hopeful to persuade Netanyahu to accept the ceasefire proposal before addressing the UN General Assembly.

Israeli airstrikes have resulted in significant casualties in Lebanon, with Hezbollah responding with rocket attacks. The situation has escalated with the Iran-backed Houthi movement targeting Israeli towns, causing air raid sirens to sound in Tel Aviv.

The international community continues to push for a ceasefire to prevent further escalation of the conflict, with efforts being made to bring all parties to the negotiating table and find a diplomatic solution.
