Local sports and community events filled the week in a small town in Maine. The Colby College football team played a game at Seaverns Field at Harold Alfond Stadium, where running back Keon Smart made a catch during the action. Meanwhile, J. Nadir Hashim, CEO of Custom Glass Terrariums, was busy cutting glass at his Winthrop business, which specializes in terrariums for reptiles.

In West Gardiner, Selectman Gary Hickey gathered with neighbors to celebrate the harvest of sweet corn, using a kettle that has been in his family for generations. The community event brought together residents for a fun and nostalgic cookout. Elsewhere, Gardiner’s volleyball team celebrated a player’s score in a game against Nokomis, showing team spirit and camaraderie.

The Waterville boys soccer team also had reason to celebrate after defeating Oceanside in overtime in a thrilling game. The team showed their excitement and sportsmanship on the field. Additionally, a local transit bus driver, Roger Campbell, assisted a passenger arriving for dialysis at a clinic in Fairfield, highlighting the importance of access to healthcare services.

At Thomas College, students participated in Fresh Check Day, an event promoting positive mental health and suicide prevention. The college’s Active Minds club organized the event, which included activities like making friendship bracelets. Finally, the Maine Event State Championship Horse Show took place at the Skowhegan Fairgrounds, featuring riders of all ages competing with their horses.

These snapshots of local life capture the community spirit and diverse activities that make up a typical week in this Maine town.
