Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has met with Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump to discuss US support against Russia and Vladimir Putin. The meeting, which took place in New York, highlighted concerns that a peace deal brokered by Trump could result in Ukraine losing territory. Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of stopping the war in Ukraine and preventing Putin from emerging as the victor. As the US heads towards an election in November, Zelenskyy stressed the need for continued support from the United States.
Trump has previously claimed he could end the conflict in Ukraine within “24 hours,” but many fear that any deal overseen by him would require Kyiv to give up territory, which Zelenskyy has stated he will not agree to. Biden, on the other hand, has emphasized his ability to mobilize Western allies to counter Russia and provide support to Ukraine.
Zelenskyy also met with President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris at the White House, as well as other world leaders at the UN General Assembly, to discuss ongoing support for Ukraine. Zelenskyy has expressed concerns about Trump’s understanding of the conflict and his running mate JD Vance’s radical views on Ukraine making sacrifices.
Overall, Zelenskyy is seeking to ensure continued US support against Russia and Putin, regardless of the outcome of the November election. The Ukrainian leader is emphasizing the importance of solidarity and strength in the face of ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
