Elon, N.C. – In a thrilling game on Saturday, Rushawn Baker led Elon to victory over Maine with his impressive performance. Baker rushed for 156 yards and scored a touchdown in each of the first three quarters, helping Elon secure a 31-25 win. Matthew Downing also played a crucial role for Elon, connecting with Chandler Brayboy for a 46-yard gain on the first play and finishing with 299 yards passing.
Elon took an early lead with Baker’s touchdown run in the first quarter, and maintained their advantage throughout the game. Maine fought back and narrowed the gap to 21-18 in the third quarter, but Elon quickly responded with a touchdown from Downing to Brayboy. Luke Barnes kicked a field goal for Elon midway through the game, extending their lead.
Despite a late touchdown from Maine, Elon held on for the victory thanks to strong performances from Baker, Downing, and Brayboy. Baker had 27 carries and a long run of 54 yards, while Brayboy finished with 138 yards on three catches.
With this win, Elon improved to 5-6 for the season with a 4-3 record in the Coastal Athletic Association. Maine fell to 5-6 overall and 3-4 in conference play. Elon’s impressive performance will surely boost their confidence as they head into the final games of the season.
