University and college graduates and students have been encouraged to take advantage of international internship opportunities to enhance their skills and broaden their horizons. Revocatus Kimario, Executive Director of the Sokoine University Graduate Entrepreneurs Cooperative (SUGECO), highlighted the numerous fields in which these opportunities are available, including agriculture, engineering, business administration, and environmental sciences.
The international internship programmes offer long-term and short-term opportunities in countries such as Denmark, Germany, and the United States. Kimario emphasized the goal of developing international experts who can excel in any working environment and culture. He noted the increasing number of opportunities available, with thousands of students and graduates benefiting from the programme.
In partnership with CRDB Foundation, SUGECO is providing support to students to enable them to participate in the internship programmes. This includes funding for travel costs and seed capital for graduates to start their own businesses upon returning to Tanzania. Additionally, SUGECO offers incubation services for student innovations to foster economic development in the country.
CRDB Bank Foundation’s Startups Development and Incubation Manager, Sharon Sule, highlighted the focus on providing support to women and youth in acquiring business and investment skills. The founder of SUGECO, Dr. Anna Temu, underscored the cooperative’s role in translating science knowledge into practical solutions for farmers.
Overall, the international internship programmes aim to equip students with the skills and experience needed to succeed in the global workforce. Participants, such as food scientist graduate Godwin Matiku, have found the programmes to be transformative, providing opportunities for personal and professional growth.
