Maine Governor Janet Mills has declared December 1, 2024, as Civil Air Patrol Day in recognition of the organization’s 83 years of service to the state and nation. Civil Air Patrol was founded in 1941 to mobilize civilian aviation resources for national defense and became the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force in 1948. The 354 volunteer members of Maine Wing Civil Air Patrol provide critical support during emergencies, offer aerospace education programs, develop future leaders through the cadet program, and engage in homeland security and counter-drug efforts.
Maine Wing Commander Colonel Mark Hyland expressed pride in receiving the proclamation from Governor Mills, highlighting the organization’s dedication to serving communities, saving lives, and changing futures. Maine Wing Civil Air Patrol has ten squadrons throughout the state open to new cadets and adult members. Those interested in joining can visit gocivilairpatrol.com for more information.
