A Thanksgiving storm is expected to bring the first significant snowfall of the season to Maine, disrupting travel plans for residents on Thursday evening and night. The storm will start with light rain in the morning, transitioning to heavy rain and snow in the afternoon. The worst conditions for travel and heaviest snow accumulations are expected from 3 to 10 p.m.
While coastal areas will mainly see rain during the day, a switch to snow with minor accumulations is possible in the evening. The storm is forecasted to wrap up around midnight with the highest snow totals expected in the mountains, up to 10 inches possible there.
Following the storm, Friday will be breezy with clearing skies and highs near 40 degrees. The weekend will bring even colder temperatures with sunny skies and highs in the mid- to upper-30s for both Saturday and Sunday.
Looking ahead to early next week, dry and colder conditions are expected with highs struggling to reach above freezing in many areas. Residents are advised to stay updated on weather forecasts and prepare for the wintry conditions ahead.
