Luke Marsanskis, a 2019 Greely High graduate, made history by becoming the first University of Maine cross country runner to compete in the NCAA championships since 2013. Despite finishing 97th in the race, Marsanskis put on an impressive performance, finishing just 29 seconds out of 40th place and showing great determination throughout the challenging race. After battling post-concussion syndrome and a year-long break from training, Marsanskis was grateful to be back on the track and competing at a high level.
Marsanskis’ coach, Adam Ward, commended his dedication and improvement over the past year and a half, attributing it to his hard work and innate talent. Despite facing setbacks and challenges, Marsanskis pushed through and achieved remarkable results, breaking records and setting new personal bests. His recent victory at the America East Championship and top-ten finish at the NCAA Division-I Northeast Regional showcase his potential and determination to succeed at a national level.
Looking ahead, Marsanskis is focused on the upcoming indoor track season and beyond, setting his sights on qualifying for more national championships in the future. With his work ethic and determination, Marsanskis is poised to continue making strides in his running career and inspire younger athletes to strive for success. Coach Ward emphasized the importance of consistency and effort from the entire team, ensuring that Marsanskis’ success is not a one-time occurrence but a sign of greater achievements to come.
