Louis Thurston awarded the 2024 MaxPreps Maine High School Football Player of the Year


MaxPreps, the leading source for high school sports in America, has named Louis Thurston of Portland as the 2024 Maine High School Football Player of the Year. Thurston, a senior quarterback, led the Bulldogs to a 10-2 record and their first Class A state championship in 22 years. He has accumulated 2,426 total yards and 29 touchdowns so far this season, showcasing his skills on both offense and defense.

In the Class A state championship game, Thurston shone with 126 passing yards, 119 rushing yards, and four total touchdowns in a 34-21 victory over Thornton Academy. Throughout the playoffs, he continued to excel, leading Portland to wins with impressive stats both in the air and on the ground.

Thurston’s outstanding performance has not gone unnoticed, and he will be considered for a spot on the MaxPreps All-America Team. This recognition as Maine’s Player of the Year adds to the list of prestigious athletes who have received this honor in the past, including Caden McDuffie, Elias Soehren, and Noah Carpenter in previous years.

With his exceptional leadership and on-field accomplishments, Louis Thurston has solidified his place as one of the top high school football players in the state of Maine for the 2024 season.
