Maine eatery provides complimentary Thanksgiving meals to families experiencing hardship

Ben Moore has made a new Thanksgiving tradition by volunteering to deliver meals to those in need in Greater Portland. Along with nine other drivers, Moore helped deliver nearly 300 meals made by Crispy Gai, a local restaurant that has been providing free meals on Thanksgiving and Christmas for the past few years. The restaurant is part of a community effort in Maine, with various businesses and nonprofits coming together to offer free meals during the holiday season.

Crispy Gai’s co-owner and chef, Cyle Reynolds, felt it was the right thing to do to help those in need during the holidays. Other local businesses, such as Bread & Friends and Regards, also contributed to the effort by donating food and volunteering their time.

Through a partnership with CarHop, a food delivery service, Crispy Gai was able to reach more people in need by delivering meals directly to their homes. This partnership allowed individuals like Shelly Sohns, who was struggling with a recent loss and lacked transportation, to have a Thanksgiving meal delivered to her doorstep.

Volunteers like Ben Moore found fulfillment in delivering meals to those in need, knowing that they were making a difference in their community. The collaborative effort by businesses and nonprofits in Portland exemplifies the tight-knit community spirit that helps support those in need during the holiday season.
