Randall Park, Bangor’s first tiny home community, has welcomed its first tenant, a 94-year-old man who wanted to be closer to his wife living in a dementia care facility in the city. The 30-unit community has seen a high demand, with almost 100 applicants in just one week since opening. Developer Louie Morrison built the $4 million development to quickly address Bangor’s housing shortage.
The tiny homes, measuring at 320 square feet, are equipped with one bedroom, a full bathroom, stainless steel appliances, and a small front patio. The rent is $1,300 per month with water and sewer included, while tenants are responsible for electricity and internet costs. Pets are allowed for an additional fee.
Despite some mixed reviews, interest in the tiny homes has exceeded expectations, with 17 leases already signed and more in progress. Tenants range from a 94-year-old gentleman to a 23-year-old couple, all currently living outside of Bangor. Randall Park honors the late contractor Brett Randall, who passed away before its completion.
Morrison is open to applicants with housing vouchers, although none of the current tenants have one. Some tenants are scheduled to move in this weekend, while others will move in over the coming months. The community represents a step towards addressing Bangor’s housing needs and providing affordable and cozy living spaces for a diverse range of residents.
