Tracking the Job Market Performance of Tanzanian Graduates

The government in Dar es Salaam has formed a committee of experts to conduct tracer studies of vocational training graduates in response to complaints from employers about their lack of skills. Tracer studies are surveys used by higher education institutions to improve their curriculum and teaching methods. The focus is on whether colleges are preparing students for the job market. The committee, led by Dr. Hamisi Mwinyimvua, will monitor vocational training graduates to ensure they have the necessary skills. The minister of Education, Science and Technology, Prof Adolf Mkenda, emphasized the importance of skills and ensuring graduates are employable. The research will examine employment status, skills acquired, challenges faced, and compatibility with the job market. Dr. Thomas Jabir, an educational consultant, suggested that the monitoring should extend to universities as well, as many do not conduct such studies. The government should create committees to monitor university graduates to improve curricula and training.
