The Maine Warden Service is offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of a man who shot a domestic dog on a hiking trail in North Yarmouth. The incident occurred on Friday at the Knights Pond Preserve as three people were walking their dogs on a marked trail. One of their dogs was shot about 20 feet ahead of them by a man described as in his 30s with dark hair and scruffy facial hair. The shooter was wearing blaze orange clothing and quickly fled the scene in a dark-colored, full-size pickup truck. Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Commissioner Judy Camuso called the shooting heinous and inexcusable, urging anyone with information to contact the Maine Warden Service or Operation Game Thief. The Warden Service is also encouraging the shooter to turn himself in. This incident has sparked outrage and tarnished the reputation of Maine’s hunting community. Anyone with information on the shooter is asked to call 207-624-7076.
