Clemson Upsets No. 2 Duke to Snap Winning Streak
In a thrilling Atlantic Coast Conference game on Saturday night, Clemson shocked the basketball world by defeating No. 2 Duke 77-71, ending the Blue Devils’ impressive 16-game winning streak. Viktor Lakhin led the Tigers with 22 points, while Chase Hunter and Ian Schieffelin also made crucial contributions.
Despite a strong performance from Duke’s Tyrese Proctor, who scored 23 points, player of the year candidate Cooper Flagg was held in check for most of the game, managing only 18 points on 6-of-17 shooting. Clemson used a 12-0 run in the second half to take the lead and held on for the victory, denying Duke a chance to claim the top ranking in the country.
The win was particularly significant as No. 1 Auburn had lost earlier in the day, giving Duke an opportunity to take over the top spot with a win. The Tigers showed impressive resilience after a triple-overtime loss to Georgia Tech and a previous victory against then-No. 4 Kentucky.
Despite struggling at the free-throw line, Clemson’s grit and determination were evident as they overcame the odds to secure the upset victory. With this win, Clemson improved to 19-5 overall and 11-2 in the ACC, while Duke dropped to 20-3 overall and 12-1 in the conference.
Looking ahead, Duke will host California on Wednesday night, while Clemson will face North Carolina on Monday night. The Tigers’ victory over Duke is sure to be remembered as one of the standout moments of the season in college basketball.
