Several people were transported to the hospital with serious burns after a car hit a dump truck in Liberty County, Georgia. The Georgia State Patrol responded to the crash on GA 196 at Rogers Pasture Road, where the dump truck turned directly into the path of the car. The driver of the dump truck was uninjured, while two occupants of the car were rescued by two heroic men, Leaga Sua and Brian Patterson.
Sua, an employee with the Liberty County Board of Commissioners, witnessed the accident and immediately sprang into action. He assisted another man in pulling the two occupants out of the burning car, using a fire extinguisher to try and put out the flames on the driver. Sua suffered minor burns to his hair and skin in the process. Both men stayed with the patients until EMS arrived.
The Liberty County Fire Chief, Brian Darby, praised Sua and Patterson for their bravery and quick thinking in rescuing the victims of the crash. The driver of the car, who appeared to be engulfed in flames, was saved thanks to the heroic actions of these two men. The dump truck driver, who caused the accident, was unharmed in the collision. The cause of the crash is still under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.
