The #5 University of Maine men’s ice hockey team is set to host rival New Hampshire in the Buffalo Wild Wings Border Battle at Alfond Arena this weekend. The games are scheduled for Friday, Feb. 14 and Saturday, Feb. 15, with Saturday’s game airing live on NESN. The Black Bears are coming off a 1-0-1 performance against Providence College, while New Hampshire suffered losses to Boston College and Merrimack in their recent games.
A win on Friday would move Maine to 19-5-4 on the season and improve their all-time series record against New Hampshire to 74-64-13. The Black Bears have had success against the Wildcats, with 10 current players having contributed points in previous matchups. Head Coach Alfie Michaud has had seven career wins against UNH, including the National Championship victory in 1999.
Maine is currently boasting a strong defense, allowing just 1.7 goals against per game and leading the nation in shots allowed per game. Goalie Albin Boija has a stellar 1.61 goals against average, ranking second in the country. Taylor Makar leads the team with career-high stats in various categories, while Harrison Scott has a winning face-off percentage of 57.1%.
