Auburn’s Central Maine Adaptive Sports receives generous $20,000 donation

Central Maine Adaptive Sports, located at Lost Valley Ski Resort, recently received a $20,000 donation from an unexpected benefactor inspired by his cousin with physical challenges. The donation will allow the organization to provide more opportunities for exceptional athletes with disabilities to compete in various sports programs.

The organization, led by disabled Army Sergeant Christy Gardner, offers year-round adaptive sports programs such as sled hockey, skiing, track, kayaking, and cycling to about 100 individuals with special needs. The donation will help cover essential costs like liability insurance and registration fees, ensuring the program’s operation for the next two years.

The donation came from Cam Macri, whose cousin Travis, born prematurely and facing cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and visual impairment, found joy and independence through adaptive sports like sled hockey. Cam, working at a growth equity firm in Boston, secured the donation through a corporate giving event, emphasizing how CMAS has made sports accessible for individuals with disabilities like Travis.

The $20,000 donation is a significant boost for the nonprofit, supporting its mission of making sports accessible to all individuals regardless of ability. The organization, solely reliant on donations, hopes this generous contribution will inspire others to support their cause and volunteer their time to help individuals with disabilities enjoy the benefits of sports participation.
