University of Maine goaltender Albin Boija has been named a semifinalist for the 2025 Mike Richter Award, which is given annually to the top goalie in Men’s NCAA Division I hockey. Boija, a sophomore from Sundsvall, Sweden, currently holds impressive stats, ranking second in the nation with a 1.61 goals against average and ninth with a .931 save percentage. His record of 17-5-4 includes four shutouts, placing him among the top goaltenders in the country.
Boija is just the third Hockey East goaltender since 2005 to have a goals against average below 1.65 in their first 26 games, making him a standout player in college hockey. He has also received two Hockey East Goaltender of the Week accolades this season. Boija was selected as one of the 10 semifinalists for the Mike Richter Award by a panel of voters from the hockey community, including coaches, media members, scouts, and USA Hockey representatives.
In early March, three finalists will be announced, with the winner being revealed in April during the NCAA Frozen Four in St. Louis. Boija’s exceptional performance on the ice has earned him recognition as one of the top goaltenders in the country, and his nomination for the Mike Richter Award solidifies his status as a player to watch in collegiate hockey.
