The defending Class B champion Orono Red Riots secured a 60-43 victory over the Hermon Hawks at the Cross Insurance Center on Friday night. Junior guard Brady Hews led Orono with 22 points, while Hermon’s Carter Wiggin matched him with 22 points of his own.
Despite the close score, Orono managed to maintain a lead throughout the game. Holding a 28-21 advantage at halftime, Orono saw Hermon narrow the gap to just two points in the third quarter. However, a strong performance by Hews, along with key plays from Will Francis and Bergen Soderberg, helped Orono pull away.
Soderberg’s consecutive 3-pointers in the fourth quarter solidified Orono’s lead, ultimately leading to their 17-point victory. The Red Riots will continue their quest for a third straight title with their next game on Wednesday at the Cross Center in Bangor.
On the other hand, Hermon concludes their season with a 9-10 record after the loss to Orono. Fans can look forward to more exciting basketball action as the Red Riots strive to defend their championship title.
