Upcoming All-Aroostook County semifinal showdown in girls Class D North

An all-Aroostook County Class D North girls basketball semifinal matchup is set for Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor after Central Aroostook and Wisdom of St. Agatha both secured quarterfinal wins. Central Aroostook defeated Jonesport-Beals 56-42, while Wisdom came from behind to beat Ashland 45-36.

Led by sophomore guard Lilly Burtt and junior guard Harleigh Allen, Central Aroostook’s full-court press forced numerous turnovers and propelled them to their 11th win in the last 12 games. It will be their first trip to the semifinals since 2016. Meanwhile, Wisdom, making its fourth consecutive semifinal appearance, will be seeking a third regional title game berth in four years.

In the opener, Wisdom’s junior guard Ava Lerman impressed with 22 points, including an 18-for-20 free throw shooting performance. This helped the Pioneers erase a halftime deficit and secure a 45-36 win over Ashland.

While Central Aroostook and Wisdom are gearing up for a competitive semifinal match, the losing teams, Jonesport-Beals and Ashland, finished their seasons with notable performances. Despite their final losses, players like Mia Mills of Jonesport-Beals and Addison LaBelle of Ashland showcased strong skills on the court.

The upcoming semifinal between Central Aroostook and Wisdom promises to be a thrilling matchup with both teams looking to secure a spot in the regional title game.
