In a tough loss for the University of Maine women’s basketball team, they fell to Vermont 65-34 on Saturday afternoon. Caroline Bornemann led Maine with seven points and 11 rebounds in the game. The loss brought Maine’s record to 12-13, 7-5 in America East play, while Vermont improved to 15-11, 10-2. This loss ended Maine’s four-game winning streak against Vermont.
Maine struggled on the offensive end, shooting 12-of-46 from the floor, while Vermont shot 30-of-50 in the win. Sera Hodgson and Jaycie Christopher each contributed six points for the Black Bears. Vermont took an early lead with a 12-2 run and maintained a 31-8 lead at halftime.
Maine showed some fight in the second half, closing the gap to 35-13 with a 5-0 run. However, Vermont’s strong performance proved too much for Maine to overcome, leading to the final score of 65-34 in favor of the Catamounts.
Maine will look to bounce back as they return home to host UAlbany on Thursday, Feb. 20 at 6 p.m. Despite this loss, the team remains determined and focused on finishing the season strong.
