The University of Maine women’s basketball team suffered a tough 65-34 loss to the University of Vermont Catamounts. The Black Bears struggled to score, managing only two points in the first quarter and eight in the first half. Vermont’s dominance on both ends of the floor led to their victory, improving their overall record to 15-11 while Maine fell to 12-13. UMaine had won the last four matchups between the two teams, but Vermont’s strong performance on Saturday secured their revenge for a previous loss.
Despite the efforts of Caroline Bornemann, who led UMaine with seven points and 11 rebounds, the Black Bears couldn’t overcome Vermont’s balanced offense. Anna Olson led the Catamounts with 19 points, supported by Bella Vito’s 12 points and Nikola Priede’s 11 points. Vermont outscored UMaine significantly in the paint and capitalized on turnovers, ultimately shooting 60% from the floor compared to Maine’s 26.1%.
UMaine will return home to face Albany in an upcoming game, hoping to bounce back from their recent losses. Vermont, on the other hand, will hit the road to take on Bryant. Despite the tough defeat, the Black Bears are determined to regroup and play with more energy and focus in their upcoming games.
