Mattanawcook girls utilize fast breaks and efficient passing to advance past Machias

In a dominating performance, second-seeded Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln defeated seventh-seeded Machias with a final score of 74-33, securing their 15th win in their last 16 games. Led by six-foot-one junior center Addison Cyr, who scored 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, the Lynx capitalized on their significant height advantage throughout the game. Juniors Megan House and Juliana Clukey also contributed with 21 and 10 points, respectively.

Having tall players with length on their side, Mattanawcook played a fast-paced game, utilizing their transition offense effectively. Coach Pat House praised the team’s ability to get up and down the court quickly and highlighted the playmaking skills of their post players and wings.

Despite a valiant effort, Machias, led by freshman Loretta Richardson with 11 points, fell short against Mattanawcook’s strong offensive performance. Mattanawcook’s 15-0 scoring run in the second quarter put them in a commanding position for the rest of the game.

Looking ahead, Mattanawcook Academy will face Dexter in the semifinals, a rematch of last year’s game where Dexter emerged victorious. With two regular season wins against Dexter, Mattanawcook will aim to continue their winning streak and secure a spot in the state finals. The game will take place on Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.
