Maine Women’s Ice Hockey Players Kendall Sundby and Kiia Lahtinen Named Hockey East Players of the Week

ORONO, Maine – Kendall Sundby and Kiia Lahtinen of the Maine women’s ice hockey team have been named Hockey East players of the week, the conference announced Monday. Sundby, a rookie defender from Hammond, WI, earned Hockey East’s Defender of the Week award after tallying two points over the weekend. Sundby assisted the game-tying goal on Friday and scored the game-winning goal on Saturday against Merrimack. She leads the Black Bears’ defensive core in points this season with nine points. Lahtinen, a rookie goalie from Porvoo, Finland, earned Hockey East’s Goaltender of the Week award after stopping 40 of 41 shots-faced this weekend for a .976 save percentage in the two games. This award accounts for Lahtinen’s second Hockey East weekly accolade. She has played in 21 games this season for Maine holding a .910 save percentage. Both players have been key contributors to the team’s success this season. Sundby was named Defender of the Month in December and this is her first weekly Hockey East accolade, while Lahtinen continues to impress with her strong performance in goal. The Black Bears continue their season with confidence as they head into upcoming games with their star players leading the way.
