Mattanawcook boys preserve undefeated season with impressive comeback victory

The ninth-seeded Mt. View Mustangs had a strong start in their game against the undefeated Mattanawcook Academy Lynx, but eventually fell short as the Lynx came back to win 51-46. Despite a shaky start, sophomore guard Kooper McCarthy led the Lynx with 17 points and was praised by coach Adam Mahaney for his leadership on the court. Junior guard Avery Jordan and junior forward Andrew Oliver also made key contributions to secure the win.

The Lynx will now advance to the Class C boys North semifinals, looking to continue their perfect season. They will face No. 5 Fort Kent on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. after Fort Kent’s surprising upset of No. 4 Hodgdon. Mattanawcook’s ability to weather the storm and stick to their gameplan was crucial in their victory, as they faced a tough challenge from the resilient Mt. View team.

Despite the loss, Mt. View proved that they were a strong contender in the tournament and not to be underestimated as a nine seed. Junior guard and forward Wyatt Bennett and junior forward Brady Bryant led the scoring for the Mustangs with 13 and 12 points, respectively. McCarthy acknowledged Mt. View’s strength as a team, emphasizing that their victory was hard-earned.

The game was a display of perseverance and determination from both teams, with the Lynx ultimately emerging victorious. As they prepare for their next matchup, Mattanawcook will be aiming to maintain their undefeated record and continue their impressive run in the tournament.
