Trans Male Athlete Dominates Competition at Girls’ Pole Vaulting Meet in Maine

Transgender Athlete Dominates Girls’ Pole Vault Competition at Maine Indoor Track Meet

A transgender-identifying male student, competing under the name “Katie,” stole the show at the Maine Indoor Track Meet by winning the girls’ pole vault competition. The student, a former boys’ pole vaulter at Greely High School, has been allowed to compete against female students since identifying as a girl.

“Katie” jumped 11 feet at the meet, just one inch shy of the Maine girls’ pole vault champion’s record. This score placed “Katie” eight inches higher than the second-place winner among the girls. However, the winning boy at the competition jumped 14 feet, while “Katie’s” score would have placed him in 10th place among the boys.

Despite an executive order by President Donald Trump threatening to pull federal funds from schools that allow males to compete in women’s sports, Maine continues to allow transgender-identifying males to compete against girls. This decision has sparked controversy, with Greely High School coach Allen Cornwall criticizing the practice as unfair to biologically female athletes who have been working towards championships for years.

The future of transgender athletes competing in girls’ sports in Maine remains uncertain, as schools may risk losing federal funds if they continue to allow males to compete against girls. The debate over fairness and inclusion in high school athletics continues to be a prominent issue in the state.
