Lawrence High Girls Basketball Team Suffers Upset in Undefeated Streak
Lawrence High Bulldogs’ girls basketball team, along with Penobscot Valley of Howland and Valley High of Bingham, were the only three teams in the state that entered their regional tournaments with an undefeated record of 18-0. Despite a strong regular season, Lawrence High was upset by fourth seed Camden Hills of Rockport 64-56 during the Class A North semifinals at the Augusta Civic Center.
Struggling to keep up with the Windjammers, Lawrence’s junior star Maddie Provost scored 28 points, but it wasn’t enough as Camden Hills had three players scoring in double digits. Leah Jones led the way with 18 points, while Rose Tohanczyn and Thea Laukka each contributed 16 points.
Camden Hills managed to hold off Lawrence’s offense, expanding their lead in the third quarter and closing out the game with reliable free throw shooting. The Bulldogs, known for their dominant wins throughout the season, were unable to secure a victory against Camden Hills.
This defeat means Camden Hills will now face third seed Hampden Academy in the regional championship game at the Augusta Civic Center. Both teams have had a successful season so far, with each winning one of the regular-season meetings. The upcoming matchup promises to be an exciting game as the teams battle it out to secure a spot in the state championship.
