Man sentenced to jail for riding damaged e-bike into woman hours after colliding with dog owner

Singaporean man, Peh Zhiliang, was sentenced to 24 days in jail for two counts of a rash act endangering personal safety by riding his electric bicycle into two victims. The incidents resulted in injuries including abrasions, bruises, and a chipped tooth for the victims involved.

The first incident occurred when Peh rode into a 71-year-old man walking his dog along the park connector. Despite seeing the victim from a distance, Peh maintained his speed and collided with him. The second incident occurred the next morning when Peh, despite knowing his brake mechanism was damaged from the previous night’s accident, rode into a 25-year-old woman who was taking a walk.

In both instances, Peh failed to render immediate assistance and showed a lack of remorse for his actions. The prosecutor sought four to six weeks of jail time for Peh, emphasizing his lack of insight and willingness to learn from his mistakes.

Peh’s lawyer argued for a shorter jail term, stating that his client was remorseful and cooperated with the police during the investigation. Peh’s wife’s health was also mentioned as a factor.

Ultimately, Peh was sentenced to 24 days in jail for endangering the personal safety of the victims. The court emphasized the seriousness of Peh’s actions and his lack of remorse and concern for the individuals he injured. The incidents serve as a reminder of the importance of following road safety rules and respecting the well-being of others.
