Homicide Investigation Launched in Hartland Following Woman’s Death
HARTLAND — A tragic incident has led to the classification of a woman’s death as a homicide, prompting an ongoing investigation by the Maine State Police. The deceased has been identified as 78-year-old Vilma Withee of Hartland, according to Shannon Moss, public information officer for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Authorities were alerted to the situation at approximately 6:30 p.m. on April 12, when the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office sought assistance from the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit. Responding to reports of a death at a residence on Canaan Road, officials transported the body to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta. An autopsy was subsequently conducted on April 14, although the specific cause of death remains undisclosed at this time.
The Maine State Police assure the public that there is no known ongoing threat related to this case. Investigators are working diligently to uncover the circumstances surrounding this troubling event.
