Central Maine Man Arrested in New Jersey After Alleged Carjacking
Robbinsville Township, NJ – A man from Livermore Falls, Maine, was apprehended on Saturday night following a chaotic sequence of events that began with an alleged carjacking in Massachusetts.
Dustin Zimmerman, 32, was driving a black Range Rover when a Robbinsville Township patrolman noticed the vehicle make a left turn through a red light around 11:30 p.m. Upon being stopped, Zimmerman refused to provide his identity. As the officer requested backup, he sped off, prompting a pursuit by local authorities.
During the chase, Zimmerman veered off the road into a field. When police attempted to detain him, he became combative, kicking and head-butting officers. They had to use pepper spray to subdue him, after which he was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
Authorities later discovered that the Range Rover had been carjacked just hours earlier, around 6:30 p.m. at a Shell gas station in Reading, Massachusetts. The vehicle’s owner, a 49-year-old local resident, attempted to reclaim his SUV, but was dragged about 20 feet before being forced to let go. He sustained injuries that required hospitalization.
Robbinsville police reported that Zimmerman had arrived at the gas station in another stolen vehicle. Following his arrest, he was charged with multiple offenses, including traffic violations, resisting arrest, and receiving stolen property.
This incident highlights the extent of Zimmerman’s alleged criminal behavior, taking him across three states in a matter of hours, ultimately culminating in his swift capture at a New Jersey gas station. The investigation continues as police seek to gather more details surrounding the car thefts and Zimmerman’s actions.
