Angus King III Declares Candidacy for Governor of Maine

Angus King III Launches Gubernatorial Campaign in Maine

PORTLAND, Maine (WGME) – Angus King III, the son of independent U.S. Senator Angus King and former Maine Governor, announced his candidacy for governor of Maine on Tuesday, running as a Democrat. With a rich history of innovation and community service over the past 30 years, King III aims to enhance the lives of Mainers.

King III expressed his vision for a better Maine, emphasizing the need for an economy that fosters small business growth and affordability for families. “I’ve spent my life building and making things that really help people,” he stated. His campaign charter includes lowering living costs, expanding housing access, and revitalizing Maine’s economy through innovation and hard work.

As the founder and former president of Peaks Renewables, King III has spearheaded projects in Clinton that provide environmentally friendly heating solutions to thousands of homes and businesses, all while controlling costs. He pledges to continue advocating for the interests of Mainers against any opposition that may arise, whether locally or nationally.

Senator Angus King endorsed his son, remarking on his character and dedication. “He’s a builder and an optimist who knows Maine and doesn’t quit until the job is done,” he said, highlighting his son’s commitment and qualifications for leadership.

King III, a Skowhegan native, currently resides in Portland with his wife and two children. He joins a growing list of candidates in the Democratic primary, including Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows and Kenneth Pinet. On the Republican side, Robert Wessels, Bobby Charles, and Steven Sheppard have also announced their candidacies.

As the state gears up for the election, King III’s experience in innovation and community development may position him as a strong contender in Maine’s gubernatorial race.
