The National Assembly Standing Committee has proposed amendments to the 2013 Constitution, aiming to streamline Vietnam’s political system and enhance its effectiveness. Second, revisions in Chapter IX of the Constitution concerning local governance to facilitate a smooth transition to this new local government framework, ensuring continuity in operations.
The National Assembly intends to amend approximately eight out of the 120 articles in the 2013 Constitution. The Committee suggested that these amendments be formulated as a Resolution, similar to past constitutional revisions. It also called for the establishment of a drafting committee, led by the National Assembly Chairman, which would include representatives from central agencies. This committee will develop a draft resolution for public consultation and refinement, allowing for input from various sectors and citizens.
Timely completion is crucial, with a target date set before June 30, aiming for the changes to take effect from July 1. Following the National Assembly’s approval of the amendment policy, public feedback will be actively sought. Further revisions will be made based on these inputs and discussions within the National Assembly, ensuring a comprehensive and inclusive amendment process.
