Brewer High School Softball Team Triumphs Over Bangor in Riveting Match
BREWER, Maine — Brewer High School’s softball team celebrated a significant victory on Monday, defeating archrival Bangor 8-4 at Coffin Field, marking their third consecutive win.
Junior first baseman Emma Jameson made headlines with a powerful three-run homer in the critical third inning, turning the tide for the Witches, now boasting a 3-2 record after victories against previously unbeaten teams, Skowhegan and Bangor.
The game started with Bangor leading 1-0 until senior right fielder Paige Oakes hit her first career homer, tying the game in the third inning. Following Oakes’ effort, Jordin Williams and Jill Ford reached base before Jameson sent a pitch over the right-center fence for her inaugural home run of the season. Brewer added further runs with contributions from Olivia Bragdon and Sara Young, who drove in two more runs with a double.
Pitcher Sara Young excelled on the mound, throwing six and one-third innings for the win. She allowed eight hits and four runs—with only one earned—while striking out six batters. Young felt confident in her pitching, citing improved control and the effectiveness of her various pitches.
Brewer’s offense was sharp, with 12 hits in total, as Oakes added two singles alongside her homer. The collective effort impressed coach Skip Estes, who noted the team’s hard work in practice and their consistent improvement.
Bangor showcased strong performances as well, with freshman Abby Folsom hitting a triple and a double to lead the Rams’ offense. Both teams demonstrated solid defensive plays throughout the game.
Looking ahead, Brewer will travel to Brunswick for a game on Wednesday, while Bangor prepares to host Mt. Ararat.
