Maine Softball Team Prepares for 2025 America East Championship
ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine softball team has officially set its sights on the 2025 America East Softball Championship, taking place at Binghamton University’s Bearcats Sports Complex from May 7-10. The Black Bears, seeded sixth, will kick off their tournament run against third-seeded UAlbany on May 7 at 1:30 p.m.
Maine will face a challenging matchup against UAlbany, having lost all three encounters this season. If the Black Bears claim victory, they will return to the field at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 8. Conversely, a loss would place them in the 4 p.m. elimination game later that same day. Fans can catch all the action live on ESPN+ or via live stats on BinghamtonBearcats.com.
Historically, Maine holds a record of 37-36 against Binghamton but has struggled against UAlbany (13-48 all-time) and UMBC (32-34). The team recently concluded their regular season with a 1-2 series against Bryant and a notable 2-1 performance against UMass Lowell.
Highlighted performers include Alysen Rieth, who leads the league with 139.1 innings pitched and has recorded 118 strikeouts, marking the first Maine pitcher to surpass 100 strikeouts in a season since 2016. Rookie Francesca Guerrera has made waves with 36 hits, a standout achievement for a first-year player. Gabby Papushka also shines, leading the conference in triples, while Morgan Pool dominates in the catching department, leading the nation with 23 base runners thrown out.
As the Black Bears gear up for the championship, the focus remains on overcoming tough opponents to make a deep tournament run.
