Local Pitching Talent Shines in Maine High School Baseball
Scarborough’s Erik Swenson has made headlines by committing to the University of Maine to play baseball, standing out as one of the state’s most formidable pitchers alongside Vanderbilt commit Wyatt Nadeau of Gorham. Swenson is the ace of the defending Class A champion Red Storm. Meanwhile, southern Maine is witnessing a surge in quality pitching, with Biddeford’s Gavin Haggett, a lefty headed to Stonehill College, contributing to his team’s strong start, including a recent performance where he pitched four hitless innings.
Keeler Vogt of Greely has also emerged as a star, throwing consecutive complete games, including a no-hitter against Yarmouth where he struck out 15 batters. Teammate Gehrig Donnelly shares the spotlight with impressive pitching stats, highlighting Greely’s dominance in Class B.
Jack Joyce from York and a talented duo at Fryeburg Academy, Alex Allain and Brady Chappell, have also impressed on the mound. Joyce recently reached 100 career strikeouts, while Chappell, fresh off an ACL tear, showcased his strength with an 11-strikeout performance.
Cony has bounced back strong after an initial loss, winning four straight games with notable efforts from Parker Morin. The Rams’ pitching has been particularly effective, yielding no walks in multiple games.
Additionally, Dirigo broke a 20-game losing streak, bringing renewed enthusiasm to their fans and players.
