Honda Launches Innovative XR Mobility Experience at SXSW 2024

Honda is set to unveil a groundbreaking entertainment experience at SXSW 2024, blending virtual reality (VR) with personal mobility. The Honda XR Mobility Experience will feature the UNI-ONE, an all-new hands-free mobility device, designed to transport users into immersive digital worlds.

From March 10-13, attendees at booth #729 in the SXSW Creative Industries Expo in Austin, Texas, can engage in this unique blending of real-world movement and virtual adventures. Hirokazu Hara, VP of New Business Development at American Honda Motor Co., Inc., emphasized, "By linking the physical experience of riding the Honda UNI-ONE with immersive digital entertainment, we are creating a novel multimodal experience."

The UNI-ONE stands out with advanced self-balancing technology and sensors that allow users to steer simply by shifting their weight. It features an adjustable seat, enabling interactions at eye level, and can move in multiple directions. With a maximum speed of 3.7 mph and a weight capacity of 242 pounds, Honda aims to make mobility both enjoyable and accessible.

Attendees can customize their VR experiences, choosing scenarios like soaring through the sky or racing down a half-pipe while navigating the UNI-ONE. Honda envisions this device enhancing experiences not just at events but also in theme parks, retail spaces, and entertainment venues across the U.S.

As Honda prepares for commercialization, the company is seeking partnerships with developers in augmented and virtual reality to create tailored experiences. Interested parties are encouraged to visit the Honda booth or contact them directly.

With over six decades in the U.S., Honda continues to innovate by merging mobility and entertainment, setting new standards for personal interaction in virtual experiences.
