On May 7, the Vietnam Infrastructure Development and Finance Investment Corporation (VIDIFI) announced that renovation work on National Highway 5 had been completed. This project commenced at the end of April and involved several key improvements aimed at enhancing traffic safety and the overall condition of the highway.
As part of the renovations, VIDIFI installed additional traffic signs in high-risk areas, repainted road markings at various intersections, and fenced off unauthorized crossings over the railway. The highway’s surface through Lai Cach town (Cam Giang) was restored following the dismantling of bus stops. This involved removing the frames and roof systems from eight overpasses, repainting 17 others, and adding traffic safety slogans to bridge walls.
The organization also repaired damaged road surfaces and rutted tracks, dismantled an old toll station, and restored the site at km 58+300 in Hai Duong City. Furthermore, new signs were installed at bus stops to ensure safety at critical points such as km 46+50, km 52+50, and km 57+780 in Hai Duong City.
In accordance with Plan 796/KH-UBND issued by the People’s Committee of Hai Duong province, these initiatives aim to improve National Highway 5 into a safer traffic route. For significant repair tasks, VIDIFI will follow established construction investment procedures, which include conducting traffic safety assessments and inspections before beginning construction.
This work follows prior reports highlighting inadequate and poorly maintained bus stops along Highway 5, emphasizing the urgency of these renovations to enhance user safety and infrastructure quality.
