Denise Alexander, best known for her role as Dr. Lesley Webber on the long-running soap opera "General Hospital," has passed away at the age of 85. The news of her death, which occurred on March 5, was confirmed by Variety and Soap Opera Digest on May 9. Alexander also gained fame for her portrayal of Susan Martin on "Days of Our Lives."
"General Hospital" showrunner Frank Valentini expressed his condolences in a heartfelt statement on social media, highlighting Alexander’s groundbreaking contributions to daytime television as one of the first female doctors portrayed on-screen. He recalled her significant impact over nearly five decades, stating, “I am honored to have had the opportunity to work with her. May she rest in peace.”
Alexander’s impressive acting career began in the 1950s on Broadway in "The Children’s Hour," followed by various television roles in series like "Father Knows Best" and "The Twilight Zone." By the late 1960s, she transitioned to soap operas, landing her first major role in "The Clear Horizon."
After seven years as Susan Martin on "Days of Our Lives," she joined "General Hospital" in 1973, where she became a fan favorite before her character was controversially killed off in 1984. She briefly returned to the show in 1996, much to the delight of loyal viewers.
