Naomi Judd’s Life and Struggles Unveiled in New Lifetime Docuseries
In the recently launched Lifetime docuseries, The Judd Family: Truth Be Told, Larry Strickland reflects on his turbulent yet enduring marriage to Naomi Judd, who tragically passed away by suicide in April 2022 at the age of 76. Their relationship, cemented by love at first sight when they wed in 1989, was fraught with challenges, notably allegations of infidelity, which Naomi herself recounted in her memoir.
Strickland recalls the emotional turmoil, including moments when Naomi confronted the doubts in their relationship, most notably after receiving a call from a woman claiming to miss him. "Oh, it was hell," Naomi’s daughter, Ashley Judd, revealed, describing the constant strife they endured as a family. The series revisits a particularly intense moment when Naomi depicted her turmoil by shooting at Strickland in a TV film about her life. Strickland confirmed the authenticity of that scene, reflecting the harsh reality of their struggles.
Despite these challenges, their bond remained steadfast until Naomi’s untimely death. In the docuseries, Strickland revealed the inner demons Naomi faced, often confined to her couch in panic mode during the last year of her life. "She just couldn’t get off of that couch," he lamented.
Wynonna Judd, Naomi’s eldest daughter, echoed these sentiments, sharing her shock at her mother’s hidden struggles. "I was so caught up in my own success," she admitted, overlooking Naomi’s pain. Naomi’s brother, Mark Judd, added that the lack of support during her childhood likely contributed to her mental health battles.
Parts 3 and 4 of The Judd Family: Truth Be Told will air on Lifetime this Sunday at 8 p.m. ET, continuing to uncover the truths behind the iconic family’s legacy. If you or someone you know is in crisis, resources are available at 988 or through the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
