Portland, ME – The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) is set to host a free Alzheimer’s & Caregiving Educational Conference on Wednesday, June 11, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Portland Regency Hotel & Spa, located at 20 Milk St. Open to all, the conference aims to equip participants with vital knowledge and resources about Alzheimer’s disease, brain health, and caregiving.

“Knowledge is a powerful tool in navigating the challenges of caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease,” remarked Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr., AFA’s president & CEO. “This conference connects families with practical information and support to enhance their ability to cope with today’s challenges and prepare for the future.”

The conference will feature several informative sessions, including:

  1. Alzheimer’s Disease: What’s Good for the Body is Good for the Brain – Dr. Alyson Maloy will delve into the relationship between diet and brain health, emphasizing the Nutritarian way of eating to promote overall wellness.

  2. Breaking Barriers: Creating Better Care and More Choices for Families with Dementia – Jessica Maurer, Esq., will address the impact of ageism in healthcare, urging attendees to confront cultural stigmas and advocate for better Alzheimer’s care.

  3. Building Community Supports for Caregivers – Megan Walton will discuss vital support systems and resources available for caregivers, underscoring that no one should navigate this journey alone.

  4. Safeguarding Your Home After a Dementia Diagnosis – Paul Ballance will provide insights on modifying living spaces to enhance the safety and quality of life for individuals with dementia.
